July 4th. (Mon.) The 22nd Annual Fiesta of Independence. The ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. Located at The South Mountain Community College Gymnasium, 7050 S. 24th St., just north of Baseline Road. The Fiesta of Independence is the home-grown effort of community groups in the South Mountain Village, the South Mountain Community College, in conjunction with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services and Homeland Security.
October 21, 22, 23 (Fri-Sun, 6 PM to 9 PM):Haunted Hayride at South Mountain Park. Bring the family for a spooky ride on a horse-drawn wagon through Box Canyon. Legends abound about ghosts in the park. $5 for adults and $3 for children ages 3-12. Begins in the parking lot of the South Mountain Activities Complex, 10409 S. October 22nd. Day of Service 7AM till Noon. Locations and details TBA
November 5th. (Sat. 10 AM): Festival of Thanksgiving Parade on Central Avenue. Parade begins at the Jesse Owens Parkway and South Central Avenue and proceeds north to East Alta Vista and then east to the El Reposo Park at 212 East Alta Vista. November 5th... (Sat.) Pancake Breakfast sponsored by the Southgate Church, located at South Jesse Owens Parkway and East Baseline Road behind the Discount Tire Store. 7 AM. Free.
November 5th. (Sat.): Community Fair, 10 am – 2 pm, at the El Reposo Park 212 East Alta Vista. Info: Verna at 602-276-5925. Free.
November 6th. (Sun. 1:00 PM) 36th Annual Pioneer Luncheon at the Corona Ranch, 7611 S. 29th Ave.; 1 pm.; Honors those who have lived in the South Mountain Village for 50 years or more. Food, fun, fellowship and door prizes. Bring memorabilia to share. Pioneers free, all others: donation. Everyone welcome. Must have reservations. Sponsored by Lowman’s Arizona Funeral Home. November 13th. (Sun.) Faith Day at Southern Baptist Temple, 6520 S. Central Ave., 3 pm. Community gathers to celebrate beliefs and share pride of community and country. Contact Mickey at 602-276-6578. Free.
November 19th. (Sat.) Harvest Daze and Laveen Turkey Trot, family fun! children’s area, entertainment, arts and crafts, food and more! Cesar Chavez Park, 35th Ave & Baseline, 8 am – 3 pm. Free. Next to the Cesar Chavez Library.
December 10th. (Sat) Fun Fest to be held at the Southern Baptist Temple. 11 am to 3 pm, Free. Sponsored by Southgate Church and the Southern Baptist Temple, and Americans for a Better Tomorrow. Contact Verna at 602-276-5925. Free.
